How I can help

My professional background

Laura’s passion for startups was fueled by her experience working for a technology startup from its early stage to its successful exit five years later. Laura is the cofounder of StartupSac, whose mission is to accelerate Sacramento’s startup and innovation ecosystem by informing, educating, empowering, and connecting its startup founders and innovators. In addition, she is the co-curator of the Sacramento Startup Digest, a free weekly newsletter about startup events, a Startup Weekend organizer, the director of community outreach for Startup Grind Sacramento and one of the founding organizers for 1 Million Cups Sacramento. Prior to cofounding StartupSac, Laura worked as director of programs, marketing and operations for economic development nonprofit SARTA whose mission was to grow the technology industry in the region. A veteran of the electronics industry, she has extensive private-sector executive management experience in a variety of functional areas, including finance, operations, manufacturing, marketing communications, technical sales and product management. Laura has a BS in Commerce with an emphasis in Finance from Santa Clara University.

How to work with me

What I can offer

I will work with entrepreneurs from Northern California only. I enjoy working with very early stage entrepreneurs who are working on a scalable business. My role is kind of like a High School counselor -- I help them understand what "subjects" will help them move their startup forward and what resources are available in the Sacramento region to teach them those subjects.

My expectations for a successful mentoring relationship

I expect that if I am offering my time and talent that the entrepreneur will consider what I have to share. I enjoy being updated as their venture moves forward even if they've outgrown the advice I have to share.

How entrepreneurs can prepare before we start

Since I like working with very early stage startups, there isn't a lot of advance preparation needed.
