My professional background
I fell into the hotel business 30 years ago in the middle of a recession. Without knowing a thing about sales or the industry, I picked up the phone and knocked on doors, cold calling for business. As a result of my entrepreneurial, strategic and disciplined approach to this experience, I have grown my career with proven results as a successful sales and marketing hospitality professional serving the meeting and events community, and am a leader in my field. I have experience working with business, government, associations, non-profits, social and educational organizations. In addition, I have served as an instructor, trainer and mentor, helping others improve business development, networking and business relationship skills.

As a StartupSac Mentor, I am focused on mentoring Entrepreneurs in the Greater Sacramento Area. Experiential marketing. Business development, networking and business relationship skills (can be applied to other industries). Short term, long term strategic goal planning. Insight into hospitality, meeting and event industries. A positive, supportive and honest mentor who will allow you to do what you do best, and guide you where you most need guidance.
My expectations for a successful mentoring relationship
A successful mentoring relationship will begin with both parties located in the greater Sacramento (California, USA), area. Introduction meeting to discuss mentee objectives and determine if mentorship match is a good fit. If a good fit, create a 90 day plan/trial period. At the end of a trial period review outcomes of the 90 day plan and decide whether to continue the mentoring relationship. To continue mentoring relationship, determine level of support by mentor required, create SMART goals and action steps and timeline to achieve the goals. A successful mentoring relationship will be one in which both parties have respect for each others time and talents, are honest and transparent at all times, are committed to the work being done, and follow through on next steps to achieve mutually agreed upon goals.
How entrepreneurs can prepare before we start
To prepare for introduction meeting, bring business/marketing plan, or if just beginning overall goals/objective/outlines to discuss. Be prepared to answer the questions 1) why did you choose me as a prospective mentor? 2) what specialty/strength do you bring to your start up? 3) what do you need all the help you can get with? 4) what do you hope to accomplish from this mentor relationship?
