I am not taking on any new mentees at this time. Best of luck on your journey!
Now retired, I spent 20 years in high technology (Silicon Valley), 11 years managing my own company, 8 years as a business broker and management consultant to small business owners and most recently 3 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Namibia (southern Africa).
How to work with me
What I can offer
Over many years consulting entrepreneurs and SME owners/managers in numerous countries, industries, and markets, I have served them best as a sounding board and NOT as free labor to do their work for them. I will listen to you, and provide feedback. I will answer your questions where I am qualified, and help find other resources when I don't have the answers myself. I will empathize with the challenges you are facing, because I know first hand that it is lonely at the top. I understand that running your own business is the hardest work you will ever undertake, and the most rewarding activity in which you will ever engage.
My expectations for a successful mentoring relationship
I don't expect a mentee to always adopt my suggestions - I know that I may not always be right. However, I DO expect fair consideration of my input and feedback, as well as a reasoned explanation for taking another course of action. We will work together as a team, sharing the goal of making your business more successful than it would be if we didn't work together - and YOU will define what success is.
How entrepreneurs can prepare before we start
Take this mentorship relationship seriously. We will be respectful of each others' valuable time - and maintain open, honest, and direct communications. If there are assignments that we each take on, we will honor those commitments. If changes must be made, we will give each other ample notice. This is work - often times it is very hard work. But it can also be fun, so a good sense of humor is useful.
