Be aware of the risks associated with this medium that neither you nor your mentor control. Some video chat vehicles are high risks for hacking.

Use your best judgement, I don't believe it is necessary to have a video chat for mentoring, but if you want to video chat, you'd likely need to provide phone number, email address or both.

If you do decide to move forward, you will want to be cautious about which application (stick to main stream apps would be my advice) and never share your IP address.

I agree with the other mentors who've answered. I'd be very wary of how much information I provide to your mentors. Sharing your phone number and email is fine for video chat purposes but it could open up social engineering attempts that can be used to steal sensitive information. Use your best judgement with anything that is being asked of you.

Mildred hi. If your question relates to safety and to a Micromentor.org mentor, please keep in mind that anyone can be a volunteer business mentor in this website and previous background check for this position is not a requisite. Sharing basic information is normal and it would be not an issue. However, you may want to exercise good judgement with key confidential data (personal and business). In any case, Micromentor.org is a very reputable community, worldwide, supported by Mercy Corps, a global non-governmental, humanitarian aid organization.
